Sportarena Streetball Team
We want to turn this thing into one of the most important streetballs in the world, where people could play ball, dunk and party like nowhere else. We are very serious abouth this tournament and we guarantee you that Sportarena 2010 would be way better than it was in 2009.
2009 Sport Arena Streetball - 1st stage
It has begun!
Streetball on rain and sunny weather
Sport Arena Streetball 2009 debuted in a stormy manner. Literally speaking! The rain sent us again to the sport court of Politehnica University, providing the participants a cold shower that woke them into their senses. Basketball was played non-stop in this weekend, „3 on 3” and „5 on 5”, contests were organized and plenty prizes were awarded. The sun from the last day of the competition wept the cloudy looks on the organizers’’ faces, took the players outside on Sport Arena court and heated the spirits for obtaining the points needed for participating to the Master.
In brief, Sport Arena Streetball broadcasted online by GTS was a promising start; the enthusiasm of the players was not endangered by the non-friendly weather from the first two days of the competition.
In basketball you need brain
The website Re5pect.ro brought to Sport Arena Streetball one of the most known artists in Romania. He presented himself in a plain manner: „Cerebel, enchante” and he played basketball being “assisted” by three clowns.
CRBL was not bad at all, his team qualifying from the groups phase. Even if he has not decided what is harder – playing basketball or dancing, the artist told us that he would have felt higher on Smiley’s back, as they practiced in a well known commercial.
The „Russian” against the Serbians
As you seen on the Internet, all games were broadcasted live by GTS Telecom. At the streetball Virgil Stanescu, the captain of the Romanian basketball team, was present againg. After playing in the final seasons in the powerful Russian championship, the Romanian center played with Nana Falemi. Even if he would have been more comfortable in front of a 7 meters goalpost the football player was not ashamed by his performance under the rim. „Basquareball” Team (n.a. the name of the camp organized for the second time in Sport Arena base) was made by formed first division players, Hristu Sapera and Radu Abramescu, and the „Russian” was unstoppable under the rim.
They know also how to play „5 on 5”
„Full-time” program! Friday, Saturday and Sunday after midnight the „5 on 5” competition was held. The Serbians invited to the first Sport Arena Streetball Tournament did not ashamed their basketball school, passing very well the ball and scoring easily outside the arc. Neither the team of „slamdunk.ro”, website made mainly from pro players was no match for them. Anyway the idea to play basketball until dawn was received with a lot of joy by the participants. Insomniacs made a fabulous show and the technical partner of the Tournament, Ben Gay, took care of them offering free of charge massages.
Serbian teams - very good
The two teams from Serbia honored their name and expectations. „Serbia 1” won the 3 on 3 competition and the 11 guests played the final at 5 on 5 which they lost at a very small difference. We may say that finally we managed to beat the Serbians at basketball the sport that made them famous at European level. However, the most important thing is they attitude on and outside the court. They made us understand that sport is more than a challenge, is fair play, friendship, and friendly discussions after the games, those meaning more medals or prizes. We are waiting any contestations to one of the Serbian teams :)
Participant at many contest in Europe, Petar Kostic, captain of Serbia 1, was impressed by what happened in Romania and declared „what I found in Romania is above France, Russia, Germany, Serbia or Croatia when taking about organization and attendance. My congratulations and we promise to come back in September to prove that we are the best”.

As you well know, over 300 teams requested the registration at the first tournament Sport Arena Streetball. Only 230 were registered, many old acquaintances of the competition were left outside because they did not confirm by phone! For the second tournament please register in time on the official website of the competition starting with 5 of July!
